The Rwanda Red Cross (RRC) has just inaugurated 8 houses in Jurwe, cell Mukuyu, sector Ndera, district Gasabo. The beneficiaries are families of survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Rwanda Red Cross (RRC) inaugurated 8 houses in baked bricks for families of survivors of the genocide against Tutsi at the end of the week.<\/p>\n

These houses have 3 bedrooms and 1 living room each. The supply of drinking water was among the concerns of the CRR in favor of these elderly people.\u00a0 Pipes against erosion have been installed. Water tanks to collect rainwater from the roofs have been installed. The cost is more than 8 million Rwandan francs per house.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am happy. The Rwanda Red Cross got me out of a very difficult situation. Before I had to live in a rented house,\u201d says Marthe Mukakizima, an elderly mother. \u201cWhether I get sick or die, now I am at home,\u201d she says gratefully.<\/p>\n

“We needed these houses,” said another mother, a survivor of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. “They brought us comfort,” she said. “The Rwandan Red Cross (RRC) stood by us during the health crisis. They provided us with food,” she adds, expressing her gratitude.<\/p>\n

According to the Secretary General of the RRC, Apollinaire Karamaga, the construction of these houses is the result of a good policy. It is also necessary to underline the unfailing collaboration between this auxiliary organization of the State and the different parties concerned.<\/p>\n

“This is the result of the fact that the construction of these houses is the result of a good policy. The construction of these houses is the result of the will of the RRC, the authorities of Gasabo, the workers and the population,” says the SG visibly satisfied with the work accomplished.<\/p>\n

For Guillaume Sebaganwa, member of the Board of Directors, these houses do not belong to the Red Cross. They were given to vulnerable beneficiaries. “They must maintain them well. If they lack the means, they should ask for support from the grassroots,” Sebaganwa recommends.<\/p>\n

Inauguration with material support<\/strong><\/p>\n

The RRC did not go to Jurwe empty-handed. There was a van full of jerry cans, mats, pots and pans, cloths, soap, food and blankets. In addition to these survivors, 5 other needy families were served.<\/p>\n

“The gesture made by the RRC is appreciable. Every time they support these genocide survivors, they also help us,” said David Niyonshuti, a demobilized man living with a disability.<\/p>\n

In its many interventions, the Rwanda Red Cross cares for the most vulnerable. In this district of Gasabo, other houses have been built in Nduba (12) and Bumbogo (10). Such works will continue in Jurwe and elsewhere, promised Guillaume Sebaganwa, member of the Board of Directors of the RRC.<\/p>\n
