A woman, victim of domestic violence in Nyaruguru, filed a complaint at the district level to request an end to this situation. The vice-mayor in charge of social affairs, Colette Kayitesi, reminds that the woman is not a punching bag.
“A woman is not a punching bag for the training of boxers,” says Colette Kayitesi, who is reacting to the complaint of Clementine Mukambarushimana.
This lady, aged 30, lives on Uwimfizi village, Nyagisozi cell, Nyagisozi sector, Nyaruguru district. She has just accused her husband, Michel Mbyayingabo, of recurrent domestic violence and daily drunkenness.
“Every night, my husband comes home late at night, throws me out and hits me. One day I almost committed suicide. I ask him to promise in front of you that he won’t hit me anymore,” says Clementine sobbing. As a result, Mbyayingabo acknowledges the facts and publicly asks for forgiveness.
Vice mayor Kayitesi reminds this man of the value of a wife. “The role of a woman in his house is to revive the family and educate the children. You must stop hitting your wife or you will be severely punished. “The deputy mayor Kayitesi hammered.
According to Maureen Murebwayire, head of the gender and family development department in Nyaruguru district, for the period 2019-2020, complaints related to domestic violence in the district, amount to 706,686. They were settled out of court and 29 resulted in divorce. Disagreement over how to manage family assets is at the root of most of the conflicts.
