The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, was invested this Tuesday, September 1, 2020. On this occasion the Executive Secretary of the ACBF, Professor Emmanuel Nnadozie highlights the challenge of covid-19.
Akinwumi Adesina, the Nigerian, was reappointed on Thursday, August 27 at the 2020 Annual Meetings. He was re-elected for a five-year term by unanimous vote. He has just been invested this Tuesday.
“We welcome this news with optimism and see the re-election of President Adesina as an opportunity for development partners and other stakeholders to consolidate the gains and focus on how best the continent can emerge from the depression caused by COVID-19, among other challenges,” said Professor Emmanuel Nnadozie, Executive Secretary of the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF).
“We wish him and the Bank Group every success as it continues on this path and pledge our support in building the key human and institutional capacities needed to achieve the Bank Group’s Five Priorities throughout his tenure,” added Professor Emmanuel Nnadozie.
The inauguration ceremony was conducted via videoconference in accordance with the physical distance guidelines related to the covid-19 pandemic.
The President of the AfDB, Akinwumi Adesina had been elected for the first time as President of the Bank Group on May 28, 2015.
