The arrest of Félicien Kabuga is a victory for justice. This is a statement by the Rwandan Minister of Justice, Johnson Busingye on Saturday evening.
The Rwandan Minister of Justice, Johnson Busingye, has just declared live on National Television that it is “a victory for justice. ”
He is the major financier of the 1994 Tutsi genocide. His arrest will allow justice to be done.
“Kabuga’s arrest is a welcome development,” added Minister Busingye.
Félicien Kabuga has been among the most wanted genocide suspects internationally since 1994. He has changed his identity many times. He was finally arrested in the Paris suburbs on the morning of Saturday 16 May.
“France played a major role in Kabuga’s arrest,” said Busingye. “A reminder to all countries still harbouring the alleged genocidaires to arrest them for their trial,” said Minister Busingye.
“His arrest is a testimony of judicial cooperation between several countries and international justice,” said Rwandan Minister Johnson Busingye. He has been in hiding in several countries such as the former Zaire (DRC), Kenya, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and France.
Félicien Kabuga had been on the run since the end of the Tutsi genocide in 1994. His journey stopped at the age of 84.
