Agathon Rwasa of the CNL, the main opposition party, is preparing to file a complaint with the Constitutional Court. It declares itself the real winner of the presidential election.
After the proclamation of the results of the triple ballot in Burundi, Agathon Rwasa of the CNL claims to be the real winner of the elections. He does not want any compromise. According to his claims, he is waiting for the publication of the final results before filing a complaint with the Constitutional Court.
We cannot bring our case before the Constitutional Court until the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) itself has made the results public,” he said. We are waiting for it to do so officially,” Agathon Rwasa told the newspaper IWACU.
The main opponent, Agathon Rwasa, says the last elections were marred by many irregularities.
“We have reported that there were several voter cards that remained in the hands of the administration. And on polling day, they distributed them to individuals,” said Rwasa.
He refers to the public prosecutor who wrote to the president of CENI wrongly asking him to strike a good number of CNL members from the list of candidates. He blames CENI for having recounted the votes in the Bujumbura mayor’s office when everything went well. The list of blunders is long and he claims to have evidence.
The Catholic Church in Burundi also noted irregularities in the last elections.
Meanwhile, diplomats in Bujumbura have acknowledged the results of the ballot boxes. Outgoing President Pierre Nkurunziza and DRC Head of State Félix Tshisekedi have already congratulated Evariste Ndayishimiye.
Earlier this week, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) proclaimed Major General Evariste Ndayishimiye, the CNDD-FDD candidate, the winner of the presidential election.
