The United States decided to donate three million dollars to three East African countries in the fight against the coronavirus. These are Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.
The United States Department of State announces a grant of $1 million for each of these three East African countries: Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. The amount offered to Rwanda is equivalent to approximately 960 million Rwandan francs. This amount will contribute to monitoring and case management efforts in response to VIDOC-19, according to the U.S. Department of State website.
For Kenya, $1 million (about 105 million Kenyan Shilling) will strengthen risk communication, prepare health communication networks and the media for a possible case, and help deliver public health messages to the media, health workers and communities. Precise the same State Department site.
Tanzania, for its part, will also receive $1 million (approximately Tsh 2,311 billions) for risk communication, water and sanitation, infection prevention and control, dissemination of public health messages, etc.
Rwanda has 70 infected people, Kenya 42, Uganda 33 and Tanzania 19, according to World Health Organization (WHO) statistics dated 30 March 2020. The said report is silent on the situation in Southern Sudan and Burundi. The latter states that it has not recorded any cases.
The United States has already recorded the highest number of patients, with a total of 143,055 people infected.
