A team of Rwandan cyclists is preparing to take part in the “Grand Prix Chantal Biya” competition scheduled for 18-22 November.
Six Rwandan cyclists are in intensive training before flying to Cameroon where they will compete against other riders from different countries. The selected riders are Areruya Joseph, Byukusenge Patrick, Mugisha Samuel, Mugisha Moise, Munyaneza Didier and Uhiriwe Byiza Renus.
In addition to the Rwandans, the other confirmed teams are those from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Benin, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Mali and Slovakia.
The 20th “Grand Prix Chantal Biya” is organized in five stages over a total distance of 685.3 km. The start will be in Douala on 18th November and the final stage will end in Yaounde on 22nd November 2020.
The longest stage will be the 3rd stage on Friday 20 November between Yaounde and Ebolowa over a distance of 167 km. The last stage between Sangmélima and Yaounde is also important as it is 166.4 km.
In the first stage, the cyclists will stay in Douala and will have to ride 95.9 km but will have to be accommodated in Yaounde.
In 2019, the Algerian Azzedine Lagab won the 19th edition. Marek Canecky from Slovakia was second and Arjan Hofman from the Netherlands also took a place on the podium as 3rd in the classification. All three of them aren’t on the list of riders ready for the 20th edition of the “Grand Prix Chantal Biya.”
