The International Monetary Fund approves a disbursement of US$109.4 million to Rwanda. This amount will help to address the economic impact of covid019.
The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has just approved a disbursement of US$109.4 million to Rwanda.
“The IMF Executive Board approved Rwanda’s request for a fund of $109.4 million. We are working quickly to respond to many other requests. “IMF Managing Director Kristaline Georgieva announced on her Twitter account.
This funding is drawn from the emergency fund to help African countries cope with the covid-19 pandemic. The Rwandan government’s request was the first to be approved.

The Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda, John Rwangombwa, also reacted quickly on his Twitter account. “We express our gratitude for this quick approval of this support. “He wrote. “Together we should overcome this pandemic and mitigate its negative impact. ” He adds.
To reduce and halt the spread of the coronavirus in Rwanda, drastic measures have been taken. They are bound to have a negative impact on the country’s economy. This fund disbursed by the IMF will help cushion the shock.
