Nyamagabe district has inaugurated a model village of 32 houses in Gahama village, Kavumu cell of Kaduha sector. These two-storey houses, built under the model commonly known as “eight in one,” are intended for destitute families.
On this day when Rwanda commemorates the 27th anniversary of the liberation, 16 families from the survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi and 16 others who had built on very high-risk sites benefited from houses built in a modern way and in durable materials.
One of the beneficiaries of these new houses, Caritas Mukankaka, expressed her great joy and gratitude to the government. She recalled the role played by the former soldiers of the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) in the liberation of the country.

“Today is a day of joy. I pay great tribute to our government for its obvious concern for its people. I also thank the former soldiers of the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) for liberating our country. Without them, where would we be today?” says the old Mukankaka, very moved.
The mayor of Nyamagabe district, Bonaventure Uwamahoro, returned to the importance and significance of the celebration. “This village we are inaugurating today is the result of our unity and the government’s policy of good governance and the will to move forward,” said Mayor Uwamahoro. “The current liberation is the fight against poverty and ignorance. The search for suitable housing for every citizen is not only our daily concern, but also a sign of true liberation and respect for our people,” he said.

The Gahama village was built by Nyamagabe district in collaboration with the Genocide Survivors Assistance Fund (FARG) and the Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA). The works cost 718 million FRW.
