The Kicukiro District Court decided to house Paul Rusesabagina in prison for 30 days pending his trial.
In view of the fact that he is facing charges that will result in him incurring a sentence of more than 2 years, and in view of the serious charges against him, Rusesabagina will be detained for 30 days, pending his trial.
According to the court judge “there are strong reasons to believe that Rusesabagina committed the alleged crimes, after an assessment of the 13 counts and the details presented by the prosecution. »
With regard to his health, the judge stated that there is no evidence that Rusesabagina will not receive the necessary medical care while in detention. He will therefore continue to be detained and to follow all other procedures while in detention.
Rusesabagina and his lawyers immediately decided to appeal the court’s decision. They are seeking bail. In principle the appeal is valid if it is made within a period not exceeding five days.
