The Rwandan Head of State went to Entebbe on Sunday 24 April 2022. He was received by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, his Ugandan counterpart. They held discussions on bilateral relations.
After the reopening of the common borders, President Paul Kagame went to Uganda. He was received by the Ugandan Head of State, Kaguta Museveni and his wife at the State House in Entebbe.
“I had bilateral talks with President Paul Kagame on a number of issues, including regional peace, stability and cooperation. I welcome H.E. Kagame to Uganda,” said President Museveni.
President Kagame is also expected to attend the 48th birthday ceremonies of Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni’s son.
The security adviser to President Museveni and commander of the army has been instrumental in bringing the two states closer together.
Rwanda complained about Uganda’s support for Kayumba Nyamwasa’s RNC (Rwanda National Congress) and the terrorist movement, FDLR. In addition, there were disappearances, imprisonments and expulsions of Rwandans residing or travelling to Uganda.
Paul Kagame’s current visit could well fit in with this reconciliation process between the two neighbouring states.
