President Kagame reiterated the importance of peace and security. “We would do better to remember that Peace and security are the precondition for the well-being and progress. ”
“We remember him for his strong commitment to peace, which he always articulated with spirit and grace, despite all the challenges,” added Paul Kagame who recalled that Shimon Peres was a friend of Rwanda.

“We identify with his vision of global collaboration in the pursuit of a better future for all our children,” said Head of State Paul Kagame.
Simon Peres was born on 2 August 1923. He served twice as Prime Minister and twice as Acting Prime Minister and as President. He has been a member of 12 cabinets. His political career was 66 years long.
He is one of the three leaders who shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. The others were Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin. It was in recognition of their efforts to make peace in the Middle East.
On 13 September 2016, Peres, then 93 years old, suffered a serious stroke. He died on 28 September.
