Bingo, from his artist name, is preparing a theatrical show for the beginning of next year. He will be alone on stage to play several roles at the same time.
In the Space Room, near the Kacyiru Library, twice a week, Bingo Régis works with his coach, Wesley Ruzibiza, on the theatre alone.
“Playing a play alone on stage is a great challenge for me,” he says. “Playing a play for five actors alone gives you a space to explore your imagination. I think it’s a good job for me,” he simply adds.
He is confident in himself that he won’t be able to bore the audience. “That’s the challenge, playing a play with several actors and being alone on stage,” says the young artist.
For his coach, Wesley Ruzibiza, the two sessions per week would not be enough to achieve the desired quality of the show.
It is also a personal work….
“It’s a personal investment,” says Ruzibiza. “I’m here to push the imagination to go up. It can be fast; it can be slow. It depends on his understanding and the work he does,” explains Ruzibiza.
After the two weekly sessions, Bingo Régis extends this work at home for the rest of the week to find his rhythm and inspiration. “You have to put your heart and soul into something if you are passionate about it. You have to learn. When you learn, you become something big, but you also have to meet the people who do that…,” he advises his peers.

Theatre as a means of healing
Wesley Ruzibiza, as a professional, asks young people to live their passion. “You have to live your passion, you have to take the stage to speak, you have to say what you like,” he suggests.
He reminds us that Rwandans are living in a special time. “We live in a post-traumatic society, a society that has a lot to say, a society that has a lot to review, a society that has a lot of problems, that has stories to tell, I think that theatre, dance, everything that is artistic, is a medium to be able to heal, … take its place in today’s society, and really claim its identity, its culture and its place in the world,” he said.
The idea of embracing theatre was born at Bingo Régis in 2014. He knew that one way to express and share his passionate love was through theatre. “Theatre is a living art. You talk to the people you see, you express yourself as you wish, …” he says in a lively tone.
