American democracy has never been as shaken as it is today. Demonstrators burst into the Capitol and the work of certifying Joe Biden’s victory was interrupted on Wednesday, January 6. A disgrace to American democracy.
Trump invited his supporters to protest his defeat, and they did. And it is a disgrace to America.
The Western world is standing up to say no to the primitive, lawless and, moreover, undemocratic behaviour of which they are the forerunners and defenders in the “least developed countries.”
A thousand Republican Guards are deployed in Congress to restore order with the agreement of US Vice President Mike Pence. A late intervention because it was possible to prevent the pots from being broken. The reputation of the United States in the world is tarnished.
Donald Trump’s blunders will have been useful for the Democrats. They favoured their total victory. They have just won the senatorial election in Georgia. They thus obtained a majority in the Senate as well, despite President Trump’s relentless efforts to impose his will, against the democratic principle of “One man, one vote.”
The failure of the Lost Man is nevertheless a proof of the solidity of American institutions, a guarantee of democracy.
Violence on Capitol Hill is not who we are, said Joe Biden, who now has full authority to carry out his agenda.
