All eyes are on the youth as Rwanda celebrates Heroes’ Day. The youth are invited by the Head of State, Paul Kagame, to keep Rwandan spirit alive for future generations.
As is customary, President Kagame, with First Lady Jeannette Kagame by his side, laid a wreath at the Heroes’ Mausoleum in Kigali.
On his Twitter account, Paul Kagame sent a circumstantial message to the entire population. “We honour the lives of Rwanda’s heroes, men and women, and the sacrifices they made to enable us to build the dignified and united nation we live in today,” he said.
“They place a heavy responsibility on all of us who are working to transform our country,” he added, addressing the ruling class.
And especially towards the youth, Paul Kagame asked to transmit the Rwandan spirit. “We count on you to keep the unbreakable Rwandan spirit alive for generations to come,” he wrote.
Several young people reacted on twitter. Some of them promised to stay in the line traced by the national heroes.” We the youth, the future of the country, congratulate our heroes for their great works. We will not fail to emulate them,” promised one young girl.
This Heroes’ Day was celebrated under the theme “Heroism among Rwandans, our dignity.”
Heroes in Rwanda are classified into three categories namely “Imanzi”, “Imena” and “Ingenzi”. They become so only after their death. For the admirers of President Paul Kagame, he is considered a living hero. His leadership marks the whole life of the country.
