Emmanuel Macron is the first to be in good standing with the Constitutional Council. The latter validated this Thursday, February 3 529 sponsorships of the Head of State of the French Republic. He thus obtains his green light to run for a second term at the head of the Hexagon.
Two days ago, Emmanuel Macron had only 105 signatures from local and national elected officials. This Thursday he had 529 of the 500 required by the Constitutional Council.
The doubt on his intentions is now dissipated. He will be a candidate for his own succession of La République En Marche (LREM).
The other declared candidates are Valérie Pécresse with 324 signatures (Les Républicains-LR), Anne Hidalgo 266 (Parti Socialiste-PS), Fabien Roussel 159 (Parti Communiste Français-PC), Nathalie Arthaud 138, Jean Lassalle 124 (Résistons), Jean Luc Mélenchon 100, Yannick Jadot 80 (Europe Ecologie Les Verts-EELV), Nicolas Dupont-Aignan 77 (Debout la France), François Asselineau 56 (Union Populaire Républicaine-UPR) and Philippe Poutou 54 (Nouveau Parti Anticapitaliste-NPA).
They have until 04 March 2022 to collect the number of signatures needed to stand for the presidential elections in April 2022.
The first round is scheduled for 10 April. If no candidate wins the absolute majority of votes cast, a second round will be organized on 24 April between two candidates. The Constitutional Council will have to validate them beforehand.
