The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Thaddée Ndikumana, announced on Wednesday 6 January, the positive screening of 40 cases of covid-19 in just two days. Measures were immediately taken for the response and the tracking of contact cases.
According to the press release signed by the Minister of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, Dr. Thaddée Ndikumana, Burundi has just registered 40 positive cases to the covid-19 test from January 4, 2021. “As of January 4, medical teams have identified 10 positive cases of covid-19 among people who wanted to travel,” according the statement.
Following the tracking of contact cases, 284 people were identified. The results of the covid-19 screening revealed 30 positive cases. This brings the total number of new internal cases to 40 in two days.
“The emergency response teams of the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS are on high alert to track all the contact cases of the 30 positive cases and the contacts of the contacts to contain the epidemic,” said the Minister of Health, Dr. Thaddée Ndikumana. The latter specifies that all the positive cases are from the town hall of Bujumbura and its surroundings.
Dr. Ndikumana reminds the entire population to respect the gestures barriers. Handwashing facilities must be available at large gathering places from 7 January 2021.
About two months ago, no cases of internal contamination had been found in Burundi. For the moment, Corona Scanner reveals 153 people on covid-19 treatment, 687 people cured, two people dead and a total of 842 cases tested positive.
