The Congolese Head of State, Felix Tshesekedi, arrived in Goma in the afternoon of Monday, October 5. He came to assess the security situation in this region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
President Félix Tshisekedi was welcomed by a jubilant population. An important mobilization of the population undertaken by the local authorities has borne fruit.
Furthermore, Félix has made the fight against armed groups in this region of Kivu a priority for him.
For three days, he will have time to discuss with local leaders and civil society personalities.
The mini-summit in Goma may be organized remotely on this occasion. The Heads of State of the Great Lakes region, while recognizing the need for this meeting, did not consider it appropriate to make the trip to Goma. The reasons officially put forward were covid-19, security reasons and a busy schedule.
While the Congolese Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, landed at Goma airport, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Marie Tumba Nzeza, held talks behind closed doors with the Burundian President, Major General Evariste Ndayishimiye. The head of the Congolese diplomacy conveyed to him, on this occasion, a message from the Congolese President.
