The celebration of Liberation Day for the twenty-seventh time was an opportunity to inaugurate the model village of Kinigi built by the Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF). The Head of State, Paul Kagame, praised this solidarity that characterizes Rwandans.
Kinigi, in the Musanze district of the Northern Province, has just received a gift worth more than 26 billion Rwandan francs. This work is the result of a collaboration between the Army (RDF) and other state institutions.
“The model village of Kinigi, and other community projects that our armed forces have delivered, in partnership with other institutions, are a demonstration of our Rwandan solidarity,” said the Head of State, Paul Kagame.
“Rwanda stands for hope. It means that we care about each other,” he said. “For us, it means something that we can all identify with and be proud of, and in which we feel valued,” he said.
The village has the capacity to house 144 families. It has a health centre and an Early Childhood Development (ECD) school.
The Minister of Defence, Major General Albert Murasira and the Minister of Local Administration and Social Affairs, Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi, came to the inauguration, which was held in conjunction with the Liberation Day celebration.
A national holiday in the context of the health crisis
No public events were organized as usual on the occasion of this great bank holidays because of the covid-19 pandemic.
“It is more important than ever to follow the measures put in place by the Ministry of Health and other institutions to curb the spread of Covid-19 and save lives,” Head of State Paul Kagame appealed to the Rwandan population.
“We want every Rwandan to be healthy and free to pursue all the opportunities available to them, including in education, employment and entrepreneurship,” said Paul Kagame, on the occasion of the liberation day.
“Fighting and overcoming Covid-19 is a continuation of the work of liberation,” he stressed.
“Some relief is on the way, in terms of vaccines, to raise the level of protection, starting with those most at risk, and eventually reaching as many Rwandans as possible,” he announced.
“In keeping with our goal of self-reliance, we are working to build our capabilities to manufacture vaccines and other medications in Rwanda, “he reaffirmed his determination to continue the fight for liberation.
It has become a practice to inaugurate a model village on each Liberation Day anniversary.
The villages of Gishuro in Nyagatare district and Karama in Nyarugenge district were inaugurated in 2020 and 2019 respectively.
