The Government of Rwanda has just sent a message of congratulations to the newly elected President, Major General Evariste Ndayishimiye.
In a message made public by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Rwandan government transmits “its congratulations to the newly elected President of the Republic of Burundi, Major General Evariste Ndayishimiye. »
The same message “expresses the will to work for the improvement of the historical relations that exist between the two brotherly countries. »
In addition, “the Government of the Republic of Rwanda wishes good health, peace and prosperity to the people and Government of the Republic of Burundi in particular during this difficult period of the covid-19 pandemic. »
It should perhaps be pointed out that the office of the spokesperson of the Government of Rwanda is a component of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda.
Relations between the two neighbouring countries have been very difficult since 2015, with the last contested mandate of Pierre Nkurunziza.
The gesture made by the Government of Rwanda may herald a new era in relations between the two countries, Burundi and Rwanda.
