Rwanda deplores the death of seven people in 24 hours for the first time. Among them was a 13-year-old girl. The covid-19 pandemic spares no one.
The worst day during the covid-19 health crisis was Wednesday December 30 with the loss of seven lives. A young girl from Nyamasheke, still in her early teens in the Western Province, was among the victims.
As the police, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Local Government have repeatedly reminded, covid-19 is killing everyone, young and old alike.
Of the seven dead, four are from the City of Kigali, including three men aged 51, 60 and 63 respectively, and one woman aged 62. None of them had yet passed the age of life expectancy which is 67.8 years. The others are from Karongi, a 66-year-old man, and Gatsibo, also a 61-year-old man.
The Director General of the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, had prepared the national opinion a few days ago, stating that for the first time more than 40 covid-19 patients were under intensive care.
The number of patients under treatment is also on the rise, with 1795 people suffering from covid-19, with a positivity rate of 3.6%. On 01 November, there were only 190 with a positivity rate of 0.6%. In a period of two months, the number of covid-19 patients increased by almost 9.5 times.
One of the reasons for this resurgence of covid-19 is the slackening in compliance with barrier measures. People believed that victory would be achieved before the end of the pandemic. The gradual resumption of activities, with contacts multiplying, is also accompanied by an increasing spread of the coronavirus, when people do not protect themselves properly.
